16 YEAR-OLDS CAN PRE-REGISTER TO VOTE
Governor Charlie Crist recently signed into law legislation
permitting 16-year-olds to pre-register to vote when they apply for
a Florida driver’s license.
This new law lowers the pre-registration age from 17 to 16, and any
16 year old who already holds a
Florida
driver’s license is also eligible to pre-register to vote now
effective January 2008.
Once they are registered, the young adults automatically receive a
voter identification card in the mail on their 18th birthday -- no
additional application would be necessary.
While pre-registered voters cannot vote until they turn 18, they are
eligible to become poll workers and work at the precincts on
election day prior to turning18.
Voter registration applications are available at the Supervisor of
Elections office, any public library or any local city hall.
Voters may contact the Supervisor of Elections office for

legislation by visiting the website at www.votemadison.com or
